I have a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770s that I had custom made through Beyerdynamic's Manufaktur option back in 2009, that are still in perfect condition. I like the way they sound, and how feel on my head, so I figured I'd buy a gaming version. The design of the MMX 300 is pure Beyerdynamic; round earcups, soft, velvety earpads and a thick, padded headband. Not much difference in most of their products aside from some being open rather than closed-back style. This is a good thing. Why mess with a design that works so well? The MMX 300 headphones are expensive, but you're getting a pair of headphones that will last for decades if you treat them well. It's an investment.These headphones are light, a bit lighter than my 770s, and a lot lighter than the pair of Turtle Beach Elite Pro 2 headphones I was coming from. That means less ear fatigue and more comfortable gaming time. The sound quality is fantastic. Pair them with Dolby Access for headphones on your XBox and you're in for a treat. The sound quality is much better than any conventional gaming headset, and that includes the pricier ones, too.There seems to be a lot of negativity around the cables being cheap and easily breakable, and lack proper function at times. Here's the bottom line - if you're a knuckle-dragger who's rough with pretty much anything you buy, a simple audio cable and microphone isn't going to withstand your constant rough handling. This isn't a cheap pair of crappy ear buds you can just throw around. Read the instructions. They tell you how to properly handle the mic, and what the proper uses are for the two cables it comes with. Treat these cans with respect and you'll have them for forever.
